Do you use cookies? What's a cookie anyway?
A cookie is a small text file that is stored locally on your computer. Web sites that use cookies save information specific to you (e.g. personal settings) in a cookie and leave it on your machine. The next time you visit the web site this information can be retrieved.
We use cookies for counting purposes. When you visit our website we check if there is a cookie from us on your computer. If we find one we know you have visited our web site before. If we don't detect this cookie we assume that this is the first time you visit our site and count you as a new visitor. This helps us to evaluate the popularity of our web site. After all, we've spent a lot of time creating it and would like to know how many people we reach. You can disable cookies in your web browser. Please refer to your browsers help files on how to do so.
How about web beacons?
Many people sign up for newsletters and then, as soon as they arrive, they delete them without even opening them (we should know, as everyone of us has done it). In order to determine how successful we really are with our newsletter and how many people actually open them, we include a small, invisible image in every newsletter. This image is called a web beacon. When you open our newsletter, this image gets downloaded. By counting how often this image is downloaded we know how many people opened our newsletter. This of course only works if you receive our email in HTML format and enable picture downloads.
