The smells of a new day in Erongaricuaro used to come wafting from the little bakeries and wood fired tortilla stoves. An early morning walk to buy "pan dulce" (sweet rolls) and fresh squeezed orange and carrot juice from the plaza stands evinced the sound of women slapping tortillas between the palms of their hands as they lay them out on the heated "comal".
