Finish: Blue-Gray Hand Painted Finishes are an integral part of the mfa/eronga hand painted furniture and accessory line. Hand painted finishes are crafted over colored lacquers in layers using a variety of application techniques. The colors used are water soluble and only a few layers can be hand painted before more clear lacquer must be applied. This gives a finish its "depth".

February 2007: Batea, the "wooden" bowl

Batea: Veggies We probably have the word all wrong. The word batea, which we use to describe the shallow adze-carved hand painted bowls seems derived from a Spanish word which refers to a Galician mussels bowl. In rural Michoacan the wooden batea is most often found in the lake area and being used for fish in Indian markets.
