Each year on November 2nd, Mexicans remember their deceased by celebrating "Día de los Muertos" or "Day of the Dead". Just like our own Memorial Day cemeteries are cleaned and spruced up.
However, the similarities end with the Mexican cultural attitude toward death and dying which is renowned for its color and flavor. In the state of Michoacán, Purepecha (Tarascan) Indians
begin to celebrate on the night of November 1st with all-night vigils in the cemeteries. Families create elaborate altars and decorate the graves, bringing evocative foods and other items
in order to attract the souls of the departed. Catch a glimpse of this experience by visiting our "Day of the Dead" show at our Gallery location from October 30th through November 4th.
